Handy Tips
- Check the pinout – On the TO-92, with the flat face toward you and legs down, the pins are commonly E-B-C, but always confirm against the datasheet as some variants differ.
- Switching workhorse – The 2N2222A switches loads up to ~800mA, making it great for driving small relays, LEDs and buzzers from a microcontroller pin.
- Add a base resistor – Always place a resistor (typically 1k–10k) between your control signal and the base to limit current and protect both the transistor and your driving pin.
- Amplification too – With its ~300MHz transition frequency it works well in small-signal audio and RF amplifier stages, not just switching.
