Handy Tips
- Direction control truth table — For Motor A: IA1 HIGH + IB1 LOW = forward; IA1 LOW + IB1 HIGH = reverse; both LOW = coast/stop; both HIGH = brake. The same logic applies to IA2/IB2 for Motor B — no additional enable pin is needed.
- PWM speed control — Connect IA1 or IB1 to a PWM-capable GPIO pin and set the opposing pin LOW to control motor speed via duty cycle. This works on both Arduino (
analogWrite) and ESP32 (ledcWrite) without any additional components. - 3.3V logic compatible — The L9110S control inputs work reliably at 3.3V logic levels, making it directly compatible with ESP32, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi GPIO pins without level shifting.
- Separate motor and logic power if needed — While VCC powers both the logic and motor driver from a single supply, for noise-sensitive applications consider decoupling with a 100µF electrolytic capacitor across the VCC and GND pins close to the module to absorb motor switching spikes.
- Stepper motor support — To drive a 4-wire 2-phase stepper motor, connect both coil pairs to OA and OB outputs and step through the IA1/IB1/IA2/IB2 pin sequence in your code. Standard full-step and half-step sequences apply — no additional library hardware is required.
- 800mA per channel is a continuous rating — Peak currents during motor startup or stall can exceed this significantly. For motors that stall frequently or draw high startup current, add a small heatsink or ensure adequate airflow over the IC to prevent thermal shutdown.
- Motor wire polarity determines direction — The screw terminal outputs have no fixed polarity — swapping the two wires on a DC motor reverses its physical direction relative to your control logic. Set your wiring first, then confirm direction in code before finalising your installation.
